So long as the cat’s ear canals and ear drums are still functional/in tact they can still hear. The external part of the ear helps with catching sound but it isn’t a strict requirement to be able to hear.

My dumb question is about how symmetrical it was. Was it found on one ear, and both were removed out of caution? Kind of like breast cancer in my family? Or both had issues at once? I'm sure they made the best decision they could either way.

What kind of cancer was it and what was the treatment?
One of my girls has a tumour behind her ear and sadly we were told that surgery would have her losing her ear, her ear canal, her facial nerve, and putting her through all that very likely won't improve her prognosis.
