Sure he gets the tech from Stark. But do they give the tech to Spiderman? Because nobody knows who Peter is anymore.

Yeah, his school records also got wiped which is why he was shown studying to get a GED at the end of NWH.
Although I'm not totally sure how he would rectify getting around his lack of a birth certificate or proving he's an American citizen. Surely there is some kind of procedure someone can undertake to rectify being a non-existent person of record, as rare as that situation would be. Can someone go into a records office and say "hello, I was raised on a compound in the woods by a cult and thus there is no record of my birth or existence at all, but I am obviously a real person standing before you so I would like to officially establish my identity so I can live a functional life, please. What forms do I fill out for that?"
Edit: I got curious so I looked it up. If there is no record of your birth and no other record of your existence in any government office, the US government can make for you a "Letter of No Record" sating "hey, this person has no records at all but they are a real person and we don't think they're lying about who they are, so they can use this letter in place of a birth certificate for acquiring ID or other documents." Neat!
22
u/LumpyJones 5h ago
Fun story time. My parents were idiots and didn't get me a birth certificate. I was born in the doctors office and for whatever reason my parents being crazy hippies didn't want me any more in the system than I already was. I did have a SS card and a state ID (back in the 80s/90s it was easier to get those) and I had to go through a billion fucking hoops to prove i existed, including tracking the doctor down and getting an affidavit that i was born there. Which took some convincing as it had been 20+ years at that point.
So its possible, but took years of headaches and bureaucracy to resolve - and thats me having at least a few pieces of the puzzle to work with. The real question is did the spell wipe out his SSN?

You see, when I was growing up at the time of the Wars of the Medes and Persians and when I went to college just after the Hundred Years War and when I was bringing up my children during the Korean, Cold, and Vietnam Wars, there were no women. Women are a very recent invention. I predate the invention of women by decades. Well, if you insist on pedantic accuracy, women have been invented several times in widely varying localities, but the inventors just didn’t know how to sell the product. Their distribution techniques were rudimentary and their market research was nil, and so of course the concept just didn’t get off the ground. Even with a genius behind it an invention has to find its market, and it seemed like for a long time the idea of women just didn’t make it to the bottom line. Models like the Austen and the Brontë were too complicated, and people just laughed at the Suffragette, and the Woolf was way too far ahead of its time.
....
But all that aside, here I am, old, when I wrote this I was sixty years old, “a sixty-year-old smiling public man,” as Yeats said, but then, he was a man. And now I am over seventy. And it’s all my own fault. I get born before they invent women, and I live all these decades trying so hard to be a good man that I forget all about staying young, and so I didn’t. And my tenses get all mixed up. I just am young and then all of a sudden I was sixty and maybe eighty, and what next?
Not a whole lot.
.... And I wonder what was the use. Sometimes I think I might just as well give the whole thing up. Sometimes I think I might just as well exercise my option, stop short in front of the five-barred gate, and let the nazi fall off onto his head. If I’m no good at pretending to be a man and no good at being young, I might just as well start pretending that I am an old woman. I am not sure that anybody has invented old women yet; but it might be worth trying.

I mean, real tho. Luxury goods are cheaper than they've ever been meanwhile cost of living is the higher. It's not the one time purchase of a monitor that's squeezing families, it's the weekly cost or rent and groceries
27
u/3Grilledjalapenos 4h ago
I really like this approach to explaining the issue. I tried to explain why guitar as a hobby was easier for me to afford now, as opposed to ten years ago, and it really is that the next available substitute that appeals to me isn’t actually much cheaper. The things that are squeezing me are the items like utilities and rent, that are just meant to keep you alive.

Its a laptop, a table, 2 monitors, and a 3d printer(?). Even new, this isn't like a TON of money in a world without data centers causing shortages. The point of Tom's Spiderman is that he is a Spiderman that got his powers way before truly becoming Spiderman, the first two movies are mostly setup in the grand scheme of the character for Peter to have everything he needed and wanted, and then lose everything in an instant due to his own lack of responsability, the Peter from the first three movies isn't the Peter we know, the one at the end of the third one is, even him hand sewing his new spider suit in the new movie despite still having the high tech suit is a show of Peter choosing to be responsible and not get the answer given to him by others.
His focus wasn't being relatable as much as it was being the one to actually have to choose his responsibility (reminder that Peter was the one who first said that in the comics, not Ben) and tbf, I feel like having a seemingly great future in front of you before finishing college and then being smacked with reality and being screwed over due to choices that you didn't pay too much mind to when you were younger are more realistic to current day.

I don’t know, I think it makes sense in universe. NYC has been ravaged by multiple disasters and the rent is probably in the trash. Plus, he really fixed up the place he moved into. The world forgot who Peter Parker is so I don’t think he could have gotten anything willed to him.
However Happy does say he “knew May through Spider-Man”, which I take to mean all the Avengers related Spidey stuff is still remembered, they just don’t remember who is under the mask. So it’s entirely possible he still has access to Stark tech via those old connections.

Anything in the world that had to do with Peter Parker was slightly altered to be something else. The spell literally made it as if he didn’t exist. Strange said that point blank and you can see in No Way Home extended version and BND intro all the events that Peter was erased from.
The more likely explanation is that Spiderman was given some Stark Tech after Tony died because they still remember he and Spiderman fighting together. Peter Parker literally does not exist to anyone after the spell.

40
u/TheLowlyPheasant The Fanatic 6h ago edited 6h ago
In the comics Peter is on the same genius level as Pym, Stark, Banner etc. with only Richards really being above him significantly.
What bothered me way more was MJ figuring out what project he was working on based on a single esoteric screen. Helping him find the source of a minor electrical field was really clever as it was smart but not ridiculous for somebody unfamiliar with a project to come up with. Then she looks at his screen and based on the fact that she "almost majored in biochemistry" she instantly understood the purpose of Bruce Banner's DNA inhibitor device
21
u/AsgeirVanirson 5h ago
MCU Peter is 100% a scientific genius same as the comics/other movies (maybe more scientifically gifted than either Andrew or Tobey's version.)
MCU Peter invented his own (praised by Tony for how high quality they were) web fluid and shooters. MCU peter has always been a scientist/science student.
His character is smart enough in universe that no one questioned him winning a ridiculously valuable internship with Stark Industries where he worked directly with Tony Stark.
Like we know it's the powers that earned it, but everyone else had to believe it was just based off his intelligence and talent as a scientist. No one expressed surprise that he could win such a thing. Not even slight surprise.
MCU peter has spent much of his screen time in team ups and facing major threats on bigger scales. His 'combat' record makes his intellectual aspects smaller in comparison, but he's absolutely written as second to Banner and Stark only because he is still like 17 and the other 2 have decades of further education and study + super brains of their own.

Not outside of times when he has been an Avenger. Classic Peter was taught a lot in college by two of his eventual villains Doctor Octopus and The Lizard but was also largely a self-taught genius who developed the web slingers and fluid completely on his own. There are times in the comics where spider-man is held out of fights to help Richards and Stark do the super science that will really save the day

And let's not forget, this Peter is possibly the smartest Peter we've seen on screen, who's had access to tech far superior to what the other Peter's have access to, for far longer. He also specifically doesn't try to balance the Peter/Spider-man lifestyle, his sole focus is on being Spider-man. That frees up a lot of time and money spent doing other things, like enjoying life.

I like to think this goes back to Peters guerrilla science mentality, bro was smart enough to engineer several key technologies in his time as spidey that solved problems he was facing, i don't think its too wild to think he could have scavenged whatever he could and saved for the rest, difficult as that might have been.
