Someone should study family income level to hot aunt correlation

766

u/SchwizzySchwas94 Zack Snyder 7h ago

She gets lots of free meals I’m sure. Foods expensive.

392

u/Jolly-Garbage- 6h ago

She’s the level of attractiveness where she could say in the middle of the date “can I order some food to go for my nephew?” And mostly get away with it.

191

u/SchwizzySchwas94 Zack Snyder 6h ago

She’s the level of attractive that she can just bring up her nephew and most guys would offer to let her take food home to him.

48

u/redisprecious 5h ago

When she asks to order for her nephew, I would keep her at the restaurant till closing so I can pay the chef to come with us so the nephew could have the freshest dinner.

At that point, the nephew is basically getting a five-star meal subscription through sheer family connections.

Tobey was handicapped by his aunt being a lot older. She was pretty fine in her prime.

Though; only Tom's place is confirmed to have an asbestos problem.

9

u/FrankPapageorgio 3h ago

Well now I had to look it up...

Rosemary Harris was 74/76/79 in each of the 3 Tobey Maguire movies.

Sally Field was 65/67 in the Andrew Garfield movies

Marisa Tomei was 52/55/57 in the Tom Holland movies.

I thought about what Peter did on the last
Movie. Maybe the aunt had life insurance and his is living off that.

But also, He missed the part , is he going to college or not?

Sure he gets the tech from Stark. But do they give the tech to Spiderman? Because nobody knows who Peter is anymore.

42

u/No_Extension4005 5h ago

Probably just remembered Spiderman was tight with Tony. They just forgot who he was.

29

u/Kolby_Jack33 5h ago edited 5h ago

Yeah, his school records also got wiped which is why he was shown studying to get a GED at the end of NWH.

Although I'm not totally sure how he would rectify getting around his lack of a birth certificate or proving he's an American citizen. Surely there is some kind of procedure someone can undertake to rectify being a non-existent person of record, as rare as that situation would be. Can someone go into a records office and say "hello, I was raised on a compound in the woods by a cult and thus there is no record of my birth or existence at all, but I am obviously a real person standing before you so I would like to officially establish my identity so I can live a functional life, please. What forms do I fill out for that?"

Edit: I got curious so I looked it up. If there is no record of your birth and no other record of your existence in any government office, the US government can make for you a "Letter of No Record" sating "hey, this person has no records at all but they are a real person and we don't think they're lying about who they are, so they can use this letter in place of a birth certificate for acquiring ID or other documents." Neat!

22

u/LumpyJones 5h ago

Fun story time. My parents were idiots and didn't get me a birth certificate. I was born in the doctors office and for whatever reason my parents being crazy hippies didn't want me any more in the system than I already was. I did have a SS card and a state ID (back in the 80s/90s it was easier to get those) and I had to go through a billion fucking hoops to prove i existed, including tracking the doctor down and getting an affidavit that i was born there. Which took some convincing as it had been 20+ years at that point.

So its possible, but took years of headaches and bureaucracy to resolve - and thats me having at least a few pieces of the puzzle to work with. The real question is did the spell wipe out his SSN?

→ More replies (1)

u/Alderan922 4h ago

The us goverment in marvel probably does have more procedures for non existent records considering how half of the human population vanished and reappeared one day.

It’s not insane to believe that considering supernatural occurrences happen almost weekly, people popping out of nowhere isn’t that far fetched.

You see, when I was growing up at the time of the Wars of the Medes and Persians and when I went to college just after the Hundred Years War and when I was bringing up my children during the Korean, Cold, and Vietnam Wars, there were no women. Women are a very recent invention. I predate the invention of women by decades. Well, if you insist on pedantic accuracy, women have been invented several times in widely varying localities, but the inventors just didn’t know how to sell the product. Their distribution techniques were rudimentary and their market research was nil, and so of course the concept just didn’t get off the ground. Even with a genius behind it an invention has to find its market, and it seemed like for a long time the idea of women just didn’t make it to the bottom line. Models like the Austen and the Brontë were too complicated, and people just laughed at the Suffragette, and the Woolf was way too far ahead of its time.

....

But all that aside, here I am, old, when I wrote this I was sixty years old, “a sixty-year-old smiling public man,” as Yeats said, but then, he was a man. And now I am over seventy. And it’s all my own fault. I get born before they invent women, and I live all these decades trying so hard to be a good man that I forget all about staying young, and so I didn’t. And my tenses get all mixed up. I just am young and then all of a sudden I was sixty and maybe eighty, and what next?

Not a whole lot.

.... And I wonder what was the use. Sometimes I think I might just as well give the whole thing up. Sometimes I think I might just as well exercise my option, stop short in front of the five-barred gate, and let the nazi fall off onto his head. If I’m no good at pretending to be a man and no good at being young, I might just as well start pretending that I am an old woman. I am not sure that anybody has invented old women yet; but it might be worth trying.

I mean, real tho. Luxury goods are cheaper than they've ever been meanwhile cost of living is the higher. It's not the one time purchase of a monitor that's squeezing families, it's the weekly cost or rent and groceries

27

u/3Grilledjalapenos 4h ago

I really like this approach to explaining the issue. I tried to explain why guitar as a hobby was easier for me to afford now, as opposed to ten years ago, and it really is that the next available substitute that appeals to me isn’t actually much cheaper. The things that are squeezing me are the items like utilities and rent, that are just meant to keep you alive.

12

u/Ok-Lead-4285 4h ago

these are not bottom price bargain monitors, they're state of the art + he has a nanotech 3D printer + top of the line asus gaming laptop in the same shot.
shit that's obviously still not common despite tony stark's declaration of free power for everyone someday, a plot line that has been abandoned completely in mcu despite power sources literally falling out of every super hero's pocketses

10

u/Worldly-Ingenuity843 3h ago

Did they ever explain where he got those printers? I don't think that's something that can be bought. Did he steal them from one of Tony's stash?

4

u/00wolfer00 3h ago edited 3h ago

They don't touch it at all in the movie, but he's got contacts in the new avengers, access to whatever tech survived in his old apartment and we can handwave that he knew about a Stark cache, which he can take since Stark won't need it anymore.

EDIT: actually outside of the 3d printer thing that was in his old apartment, the rest could easily be scavanged or bought 2nd hand cheaply and fixed up.

In the MCU, the creator of AI assistants also created a completely clean self sustainable energy source, so AI if it exists in universe like it does irl, probably didn't cause a resource or memory shortage

That the MCU basically solved our biggest problems as a species in 2008 is so wild

It’s expensive in real life because the demand drastically outweighs and has been outpacing the supply. AI has been around forever in the MCU and is also apparently very efficient since everyone has one

One thing that the MCU is hammering home better than the other spidey films is that peter is a genius. It makes perfect sense he would have this setup being spider-man in the year 2028.

Now where he got all that stuff…who knows. I don’t hate the idea that he dumpster dove and or made it out of cheap/spare parts. This is likely the explanation anyway

“tony stark built this in a cave with a box of scraps!!!”

11

u/Better-Hope-4227 5h ago

I haven't seen the movie yet so no clue if he has anything crazy but, just form this image, he easily could've bought this shit off FB market place or craiglist. Its a laptop, a table, 2 monitors, and a 3d printer(?). Even new, this isn't like a TON of money in a world without data centers causing shortages. Considering he could build the shit he did in earlier movies, I dont think him fixing broken stuff he got cheap off craigslist is ridiculous. Normal people do that all the time.

I mean, doesn't look he's toby levels of poor($20 was a lot for toby) but he could easily be flipping other things like laptops he fixed to to pay for it.

8

u/Ok-Championship2397 4h ago

Tom is cosplaying poor with his immaculate Galaxy flip and weekly flowers and next gen workshop and huge apartment (even if it might have asbestos in it). The raw vulnerability of OG Parker feels like a symptom of being poor. The worry, eating at you self-doubt, never feeling like you can trust the ground under your feet. The kind of poor where a piece of cake has huge meaning.

That's why Sam Raimi's Spiderman was more relatable

52

u/leave_me_alone_peeps 4h ago

This, it felt like a guy becoming superhero, you're relating to the person. For TH spiderman, it feels like a superhero is trying to portray a normal person. The struggles are so unreal.

6

u/ViKO15951 4h ago

The point of Tom's Spiderman is that he is a Spiderman that got his powers way before truly becoming Spiderman, the first two movies are mostly setup in the grand scheme of the character for Peter to have everything he needed and wanted, and then lose everything in an instant due to his own lack of responsability, the Peter from the first three movies isn't the Peter we know, the one at the end of the third one is, even him hand sewing his new spider suit in the new movie despite still having the high tech suit is a show of Peter choosing to be responsible and not get the answer given to him by others.

His focus wasn't being relatable as much as it was being the one to actually have to choose his responsibility (reminder that Peter was the one who first said that in the comics, not Ben) and tbf, I feel like having a seemingly great future in front of you before finishing college and then being smacked with reality and being screwed over due to choices that you didn't pay too much mind to when you were younger are more realistic to current day.

I don’t know, I think it makes sense in universe. NYC has been ravaged by multiple disasters and the rent is probably in the trash. Plus, he really fixed up the place he moved into. Also, if Aunt May had a will, I’m sure he has enough money to cover rent. Plus, he’s spider-man and a genius, I’m sure he has some way to make ends meet.

31

u/whopoopedthebed 5h ago

The world forgot who Peter Parker is so I don’t think he could have gotten anything willed to him.

However Happy does say he “knew May through Spider-Man”, which I take to mean all the Avengers related Spidey stuff is still remembered, they just don’t remember who is under the mask. So it’s entirely possible he still has access to Stark tech via those old connections.

11

u/nopitynopepants 5h ago

Aunt May died before Strange did the spell. The spell didn’t legally erase Peter’s existence, and since May likely had a will, he’d still get an inheritance

7

u/Ysmildr go back to the club 3h ago

His school records were wiped entirely. He didnt get to keep May's apartment. There is a possibility his bank account was wiped too

5

u/JustHereSoImNotFined 3h ago

Anything in the world that had to do with Peter Parker was slightly altered to be something else. The spell literally made it as if he didn’t exist. Strange said that point blank and you can see in No Way Home extended version and BND intro all the events that Peter was erased from.

The more likely explanation is that Spiderman was given some Stark Tech after Tony died because they still remember he and Spiderman fighting together. Peter Parker literally does not exist to anyone after the spell.

I was disappointed tom hollands Spider-Man abandoned a classic spider trait- an interest in photography. I thought that might be a joke in no way home. Like he doesn't give a shit about photography which was his primary money maker back in the day

They are probably assuming the audience would join the dots. He is a genius, build an inhibitor on a boat (with a box of scraps?)

10

u/Bar-Cold 6h ago

Not really “with a box of scraps”. The punisher coincidentally had all the (seemingly rare) parts peter needed to get his hands on in order to make it.

Marvel turned peter into Tony

In the comics Peter is on the same genius level as Pym, Stark, Banner etc. with only Richards really being above him significantly.

What bothered me way more was MJ figuring out what project he was working on based on a single esoteric screen. Helping him find the source of a minor electrical field was really clever as it was smart but not ridiculous for somebody unfamiliar with a project to come up with. Then she looks at his screen and based on the fact that she "almost majored in biochemistry" she instantly understood the purpose of Bruce Banner's DNA inhibitor device

MCU Peter is 100% a scientific genius same as the comics/other movies (maybe more scientifically gifted than either Andrew or Tobey's version.)

MCU Peter invented his own (praised by Tony for how high quality they were) web fluid and shooters. MCU peter has always been a scientist/science student.

His character is smart enough in universe that no one questioned him winning a ridiculously valuable internship with Stark Industries where he worked directly with Tony Stark.

Like we know it's the powers that earned it, but everyone else had to believe it was just based off his intelligence and talent as a scientist. No one expressed surprise that he could win such a thing. Not even slight surprise.

MCU peter has spent much of his screen time in team ups and facing major threats on bigger scales. His 'combat' record makes his intellectual aspects smaller in comparison, but he's absolutely written as second to Banner and Stark only because he is still like 17 and the other 2 have decades of further education and study + super brains of their own.

Spiderman needs his own “Iron Man 3” in terms of movies that focus on the character over the action.

Did peter get tech and resources from Tony in the comics?

14

u/TheLowlyPheasant The Fanatic 6h ago

Not outside of times when he has been an Avenger. Classic Peter was taught a lot in college by two of his eventual villains Doctor Octopus and The Lizard but was also largely a self-taught genius who developed the web slingers and fluid completely on his own. There are times in the comics where spider-man is held out of fights to help Richards and Stark do the super science that will really save the day

6

u/therealkami 5h ago

Yeah theres been times Reed Richards calls on him for science problems just cause he knows Peter can keep up and offer fresh perspectives.

peter was definitely never a genius who built anything cool before

29

u/Iokua113 5h ago

Yeah, he definitely didn't design or develop a revolutionary non-Newtonian fluid and a way to pressurize into storage, as well as a wrist mounted device that launches into a variety of shapes allowing him to use it to swing around the city like Tarzan on vines through the jungle at the age of 15 using nothing but a home chemistry set and some parts he found in a dumpster. Nope. He definitely didn't do that.

You forgot Stark still left a lot to Peter Parker. A lot of it was most likely damaged during his fight in NWH but you could consider enough of it survived for him to still use.

5

u/JustHereSoImNotFined 3h ago

The most likely explanation is this. Idk why people keep saying inheritance from Aunt May. He can’t get an inheritance as he literally doesn’t exist anymore

6

u/OCKWA 7h ago

What if he had some billionaire benefactor?

Tbf Garfield was still in HS wasn’t he? TASM2 he was graduating and still living at home, he owned exactly none of that.

To be fair, Andrew Garfield was still in high school and living with Aunt May in these films.

9

u/antojn 6h ago

that and Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May driving a spotless Volvo 240 because old car = poor

23

u/DomonKashu717 6h ago

Tom’s spidey probably got all his tech from Happy after Tony died.

When we first see Peter in the MCU he had just dug some shit out of the trash.

18

u/OCKWA 7h ago

He also had a supercomputer and a whole loft in BND.

13

u/porkchopsensei 6h ago

The loft was explicitly an old room abandoned because it was filled with asbestos. The computer can be chalked up to being a tech genius and building it himself, which Holland's Peter has always been excellent at

10

u/Silver_Situation_569 5h ago

He moved into that loft specifically because he wanted to move away from that neighbour who said hi to him once lol

18

u/WhasHappenin 7h ago

He probably built the supercomputer out of junkyard parts himself and the loft was a storage room filled with asbestos.

Andrew Garfield is still living with his aunt. He's technically the poorest.

6

u/evadingsomething 3h ago

So you are saying i am richer than billionaires high schooler kid?

35

u/Tree_nan 7h ago

Tobey was affording a one bedroom by himself as a part time pizza delivery driver. Rent was prob $500. He wasn’t poor he just had no sense of interior design.

24

u/Hopeful-Bed2414 7h ago

Anyone staying im a building where the landlord doesn't bother with interior design, means the person chose a cheap place since that is whst they could afford and they dint have financial power to demand better living conditions fro, the landlord

10

u/Tree_nan 6h ago

Nah man that was just how buildings in NYC looked before the era of gray washing an entire apartment with cheap floors and cabinets and calling it “luxury”

Someone forgets that Holland's Spider-man doesn't actually live in that apartment for more than a minute in the movie. He moves into a leaky loft riddled with asbestos not long after the movie starts.

And let's not forget, this Peter is possibly the smartest Peter we've seen on screen, who's had access to tech far superior to what the other Peter's have access to, for far longer. He also specifically doesn't try to balance the Peter/Spider-man lifestyle, his sole focus is on being Spider-man. That frees up a lot of time and money spent doing other things, like enjoying life.

How did I just notice that Garfield's Spidey had a massive poster of a Vonnegut book cover. Mad respect.

u/Starry-Gaze 4h ago

I like to think this goes back to Peters guerrilla science mentality, bro was smart enough to engineer several key technologies in his time as spidey that solved problems he was facing, i don't think its too wild to think he could have scavenged whatever he could and saved for the rest, difficult as that might have been.

8

u/Muk-Bong 4h ago

Simple explanation: Tobey living alone. Garfield living with Aunt/Uncle. Tom living in another fucking time period where tech is more accessible. And he obviously didn’t buy it, he would have confiscated it from all the bad guys he took down

Why do I keep seeing this?

The difference is the new Spider-Man is an avenger.

I would hope he’s getting paid for that.
